| In 1975, Jeremiah Ludington, owner of Ludington News Company in
Detroit, Michigan, founded the Educational Paperback Association, now known as the Educational Book and Media Association.
To honor his dedication and commitment to the educational paperback
market,
the EPA in 1979 established the Jeremiah Ludington Memorial Award.
The Ludington award is presented annually to an individual who has
made a significant contribution to the educational paperback business.
Recipients receive a framed certificate and EBMA presents a $2,500
check to the charity of their choice.

to the 31st Annual (2009) Ludington Award winner, Jon Scieszka.
Jon is the author of some of the best known and funniest books written for children including The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, The Time Warp Trio series, the Caldecott Honor Book The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Fairy Tales and the New York Times bestselling series, Trucktown. He is a former elementary school teacher, an avid promoter of literacy, and the first National Ambassador for Young People's Literature appointed by the Library of Congress. Jon lives with his family in Brooklyn, NY.
