Ludington Award

Member Site

The Educational Paperback Association is an association of wholesalers and publishers who are suppliers of educational paperbacks, prebound books, and other materials to the school, library and college markets. Its wholesaler members offer schools and libraries volume discounts on a wide selection of titles, representing the major publishers and important small presses that publish for the educational market.

The EPA believes that paperback and prebound books are popular and economical formats with high appeal to students. We are committed to developing better techniques and procedures for the sales, marketing, and distribution of paperback and prebound books in the school and library markets.

Founded in 1975 by Jeremiah Ludington of Ludington News Company in Detroit, Michigan, EPA is known as an innovative voice in the paperback book market, representing both U.S. and Canadian wholesalers and publishers.

Current Leadership of the EPA
President: Jean Srnecz of Baker and Taylor Books in Bridgewater, NJ
Vice President: Neil Jaffe of The Booksource in St. Louis, MO

Executive Secretary: Marilyn Abel

EPA Activities
The Association holds an annual meeting for both wholesalers and publishers in January that is educational in nature.

The EPA publishes an annual survey of the size, composition, and trends in the K-12 classroom and library market for trade books. For more information about the survey, click here.

The Jeremiah Ludington Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the paperback book business.

The Marilyn Abel Award is presented annually to a school or library, enabling them to purchase paperback books for classroom or library use.

The board of directors carries on the work of the association at several meetings throughout the year. EPA has encouraged and fostered an unusual spirit among its members, who learn from each other and meet to improve their knowledge of the market.

Membership in EPA
EPA membership is open to any wholesale distributor in the educational paperback and prebound book business. EPA welcomes as associate members those publishers and national distributors who are committed to the educational book business through the wholesale members.

To receive an application for membership, contact Marilyn Abel, Executive Secretary, at P.O. Box 1399, East Hampton, NY 11937. Phone: 631.329.3315, email: Marilyn Abel
